Top 10 songs of 2010
From hundreds of votes we have whittled the Top 10 Songs of 2010 down to these:
10. Lady Gaga/Beyonce/Britney Spears – “Telephone”
Beyonce and Lady Gaga won a Best Collaboration VMA for this duet, but Brittany’s version slipped out, earning Rolling Stone’s laud as an immaculate pop song.
9. Katy Perry – “E.T.”
E.T. was twittered into this position when Kate asked her fans which song would be the next single release from the album “Teenage Dreams”. You voted this song above “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, and “California Gurls”, so here it is.
8. Kanye West feat. Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, and Bon Iver – “Monster”
Kayne spooks on for more than five minutes, gyrating strong beats, scary sounds, and eerie words.
7. Eminem feat. Rihanna – “Love the Way You Lie”
You don’t have to imagine the strong hitting verses of Eminem and the mesmerizing chorus from Rihanna, since it’s engulfed the urban and pop radio stations. With big beats, it’s been downloaded for pay from 4.1 million Americans.
6. Future Islands – “Long Flight” (Thrill Jockey)
The music reinforces the theme, that someone is returning from having seen the world. But the music also adjusts as the theme shifts to the lover caught with another. A whole cycle of emotions and reactions are explored taking it home to the need of a hand.
5. LCD Soundsystem – “Dance Yrself Clean” (DFA/Virgin)
What the title has to do with the music is anyone’s guess, but the bomb drops after the keyboard dances around awhile. The percussion itself is good enough reason to hear this one.
4. Rihanna feat. Drake – “What’s My Name?”
Rihanna is hot on your list, with her second song. She and her anonymous lover romance sing to each other, but she sings about oral sex. This may be too hot for some.
3. Robyn – “Dancing On My Own”
She sinks into her typical depressive chants, lying like a corpse on the electronic lines. She is a forlorn girl at a dance club who’s lost the man and is trying to get us to sympathize with her.
2. Cee-Lo Green – “F*** You”
He keeps his chin up as usual in this screwed over lover song. Of course everyone had to listen to it when it was posted, just to find out if Cee-Lo had given into the dark side. But he is as cheerful as ever, like a 70′s Motown swinger. In the end he flips his ex-girlfriend and her new lover the dirty finger, developing a poem for all cracked lovers to spit at their ex.
1. Ke$ha – “We R Who We R”
Here it is – the top of the heap. The number one song by your votes is the party-igniting punching fun newest hit from Ke$ha. She’s been appealing to the outcasts, the twisted, the weird and wonderful who also like to congregate and get it on. This song calls them to arms and is your favorite for 2010.
